The Brown Hyena – Botswana 1995

Botswana Post released this official FDC  in conjunction with the issue WWF stamps, Brown Hyena, on 6 November 1995.The official FDC as local WWF cover depicts brown hyena is feeding carcasses  and have 4 postage WWF stamp with post marked of WWF logo.

The brown hyena (Hyaena brunnea, formerly Parahyaena brunnea) is a species of hyena which occurs in Namibia, Botswana, western and southern Zimbabwe, southern Mozambique and South Africa.It is currently the rarest hyena.

Brown hyenas have social hierarchy like wolves. They are social animals that may live in clans consisting of one adult of each gender and associated young, though there are reports of clans composed of four males and six females. Brown hyenas are primarily scavengers, the bulk of their diet consisting of carcasses killed by larger predators.
 
Brown hyenas are aggressive scavengers, frequently appropriating the kills of black-backed jackals, cheetahs, and leopards, including adult male leopards.

Brown hyenas can measure 86 to 150 cm  in head-and-body length, although they average 110 to 125 cm . The height at the shoulder is 71 to 88 cm  and the tail is 25 to 35 cm long.

Pronghorn Spiny Lobsters or  Panulirus penicillatus, are a family (Palinuridae)and found in almost all warm seas, including the Caribbean and the Mediterranean Sea, but are particularly common in Australasia, where they are referred to commonly as crayfish or sea crayfish .

Barbados–Queen Trigger Fish

On January 30, 2006,  Barbados Post issued the WWF stamp series features the Queen Triggerfish in 4 postage stamps. This issue has collaborated with the WWF organisation. Alongside with this issue, the officially local FDC has issued by Barbados as the local WWF cover. The cover depicts the Queen Triggerfish in detail and has  a special post marked.

Protected Bird - Gibraltar 1991

On May 30, 1991, Gibraltar Post collaborated with WWF organization released the stamp series features protected bird species, such as : Black stork, Egyptian vulture, Barbary partridge, and Shag or European Shag . Alongside with the issuance of WWF stamps, Gibraltar Post issued the official FDC depicted coloured silhouette of all birds and have a post mark of WWF logo, Panda.
Black Stork
The Black Stork or Ciconia nigra is a large wading bird in the stork family Ciconiidae.This is a shy and wary species. It is seen in pairs or small flocks—in marshy areas, rivers or inland waters. The Black Stork feeds on amphibians and insects.
The Black Stork is a strong migrant, wintering in tropical Africa and India.The storks migrate from the middle of August to the end of September.The common route goes over Gibraltar.The Black Stork builds a stick nest high in trees.
Egyptian Vulture
Egyptian Vultures are widely distributed and may be found in Southern Europe, in Northern Africa, and in Western and South Asia. The adult plumage is white, with black flight feathers in the wings.  The bill is slender and long and the tip of the upper mandible is hooked.
Their habitat is mainly in the dry plains and nest mainly in arid and rocky hill regions.Populations of this species have declined in the 20th Century and some isolated island forms are particularly endangered.

The Barbary Partridge (Alectoris barbara), is a gamebird in the pheasant family Phasianidae of the order Galliformes, gallinaceous birds.The Barbary Partridge is the national bird of Gibraltar.

Chinese Pangolin–Macao 1995

Macao Post has issued this cover alongside with the WWF stamps which are composed of 4 postage stamps depicted Chinese Pangolin or Manis pentadactyla in their habitat . This official FDC depicted a Chinese Pangolin climbed on the branch of tree and special post mark and dated on April 10, 1995. 

The Chinese pangolin is a rather secretive animal,  nocturnal creatures and  extremely shy. They move very slowly and are known for their non-aggressive behaviour. Their hard scales work as a protection cover from predators and when they feel endangered, they curl themselves in a ball. Chinese pangolins are mainly terrestrial animals .

The Komodo Dragon–Indonesia 2000

The Komodo dragon (Varanus komodoensis), is a large species of lizard found in the Indonesian islands of Komodo, Rinca, Flores, Gili Motang and Gili Dasami. It can grow to a maximum length of 3 metres  in rare cases and weighing up to around 70 kilograms .

Indonesian Post has issued the nature conservation stamp series features Komodo, on August 18, 2000. This issue  collaborated with WWF organization by  put the logo of WWF on the each stamp. Also Indonesian Post issued the official FDC of this issue as a local WWF cover.  Maximum card depicts Komodo’s life also issued on the same date,

Iguana Delicatissima - Anguilla 1997

On 13 October 1997, Anguilla Post issued the official first day cover featured the Lesser Antillean Iguana or Iguana delicatissima. This issue coincide with the WWF stamps which depicts same species.

The Lesser Antillean Iguana (Iguana delicatissima) is a large arboreal lizard endemic to the Lesser Antilles.Lesser Antillean iguanas are primarily herbivores, feeding on leaves, flowers, fruit, and growing shoots of upwards of 100 different species of plant.

Norfolk Island Post has collaborated with the WWF organization issued the stamp series features Skink and Gecko on February 6, 1996. Also the official FDC issued by Norfolk Island Post on the same date. The Official FDC as the local WWF cover have special post marked.

Skink Pseudemoia lichenigera is a species of skink in the Scincidae family. It is found on Australia's Norfolk and Lord Howe Islands.As a family Skinks are cosmopolitan; species occur in a variety of habitats worldwide, apart from boreal and polar regions. Various species occur in ecosystems ranging from deserts and mountains to grasslands.Skinks are lizards belonging to the family Scincidae

Bubo bubo (Berguv) - Aland 1996

Bubo bubo or Eurasian Eagle-Owl  is a species of eagle owl resident in much of Europe and Asia. It is also one of the largest types of owls.The Eagle Owl is a large and powerful bird, smaller than the Golden Eagle. It mainly feeds on small mammals  such as voles, rats, mice and hares.

The Eagle Owl is largely nocturnal and is usually found nesting on cliff ledges. Eagle Owls are distributed sparsely through a wide range of habitats. They have been found in habitats as diverse as Northern coniferous forests to the edge of vast deserts. Rocky areas seem to be favoured, with cliffs and mountains abutting woodland usually containing the largest numbers of these owls.

Bluefin Tuna (Thunnus thynnus) –Bermuda 2004

Bermuda Post has collaborated with WWF issue the stamps featured Bluefin Tuna (Thunnus thynnus) on August 19, 2004. The cover has simple post mark and depict the school of fishes.

Thunnus thynnus or  Northern bluefin tuna  is native to both the western and eastern Atlantic Ocean, as well as the Mediterranean Sea. Northern bluefin tuna is a species of tuna in the Scombridae family and have become extinct in the Black Sea and Caspian Sea. The Northern bluefin tuna is a close relative of the other two bluefin tuna species—the Pacific bluefin tuna and the Southern bluefin tuna.

Giant Devil Ray–Gibraltar 2006

On February 20,  2006, Gibraltar Post issued the official FDC features Giant Devil Ray or Mobula Mobular. This issue has related with the WWF stamps also have issued on the same date.
The Giant Devil Ray or Mobula Mobular is a species of eagle ray, family Myliobatidae, has a limited range and a low rate of reproduction. It is large animal , growing to a maximum length of 520 centimetres, and it possesses a spiny tail. The species feeds on crustaceans and small schools of fish.

The Giant Devil Ray is sensitive to environmental changes.The 2004 IUCN Red List listed the devil fish as a vulnerable species, but in 2006 it was reclassified as an endangered species.

Tristan da Cunha Post collaborated with WWF organization released the stamp featured Subantarctic fur Seal (Arctocephalus tropicalis) as one of threatened species on July 12, 2004.The local FDC  issued together on the same date as officially FDC by Tristan da Cunha Post.

Humphead Wrasse–Samoa 2006

The Humphead wrasse  or (Cheilinus undulatus) is the largest living member of the family Labridae. The   males reaching 2 m in length, while females no more than 1 m. The humphead wrasse has specific distinctive  thick, fleshy lips and a hump that forms on its head above the eyes, becoming more prominent as the fish ages. Males have colour  range from a bright electric blue to green, a purplish blue, or a relatively dull blue/green.

Giant Hammerhead Shark–Montserrat 1991

Great Hammerhead Shark or Sphyma mokarran, has featured on the local WWF cover on 29th November 1999. This cover issued together with the WWF stamp series by Montserrat Post. The cover have postmark of WWF logo.

Great hammerheads may be found from inshore waters of less than 1 m  deep, to a depth of 80 m  offshore. They favour coral reefs, but also inhabit continental shelves, island terraces, lagoons, and deep water near land.The great hammerhead is a solitary, nomadic predator that tends to be given a wide berth by other reef sharks.

The average great hammerhead measures up to 3.5 m  long and weighs over 230 kg. The favourite prey of the great hammerhead are rays and skates, especially stingrays.With its large size and cutting teeth, the great hammerhead is certainly capable of inflicting fatal injuries to a human.

Hydrobates pelagicus & Oceanodroma leucorhea - Faroe Islands 2005

Faroe Islands Post issued WWF stamps features  Hydrobates  pelagicus &  Oceanodroma  leucorhea  in four stamps and a local FDC on June 6, 2005.The Hydrobates  pelagicus or Storm Petrel is a small bird, only the size of a House Martin, which it superficially resembles with its dark plumage and white rump. It is 15–16 cm in length with a 38–42 cm wingspan.
