Chinese White Dolphin – Hong Kong 1999

Hong Kong Post  has issued the local FDC depicted the Chinese White Dolphin on November 14, 1999. This issue along with the stamp that are composed of 4 nominal face value. The local FDC has logo of WWF and image of the species also has a ship-shaped  post mark for cancellation.

There are three main areas of China where the Chinese White Dolphin lives. the Soko Islands, Peng Chau, and Lantau. They tend to live in the warmer bodies of water but they do also live in some cooler areas.  More of a pinkish color are the ones that live in the cooler areas.

Giant Hammerhead Shark–Montserrat 1991

Great Hammerhead Shark or Sphyma mokarran, has featured on the local WWF cover on 29th November 1999. This cover issued together with the WWF stamp series by Montserrat Post. The cover have postmark of WWF logo.

Great hammerheads may be found from inshore waters of less than 1 m  deep, to a depth of 80 m  offshore. They favour coral reefs, but also inhabit continental shelves, island terraces, lagoons, and deep water near land.The great hammerhead is a solitary, nomadic predator that tends to be given a wide berth by other reef sharks.

The average great hammerhead measures up to 3.5 m  long and weighs over 230 kg. The favourite prey of the great hammerhead are rays and skates, especially stingrays.With its large size and cutting teeth, the great hammerhead is certainly capable of inflicting fatal injuries to a human.

Cuba 1999–Cuban Parakeet (Aratinga Euops)

The Cuban Parakeet or Catey (Aratinga euops) is a species of parrot in the Psittacidae family. Aratinga euops was formerly one of the most common endemic birds on Cuba, but is now rare throughout the island. It survives in a few of the more remote regions, remaining fairly common only in the Zapata peninsula, the Trinidad Mountains and the Sierra de Najasa.
