Crested Iguana of Fiji

The Fiji crested iguana (Brachylophus vitiensis) is a critically endangered species of iguana native to some of the northwestern islands of the Fijiian archipelago, where it is found in dry forest.

Fiji Post issued the local WWF of this series alongside  with the issuance of stamp set on October 27, 2010.  More explanation about the stamp set can read in  blog “Nature  Flona  Stamp “.

The Fiji crested iguana is a large stocky lizard distinguished from the Fiji banded iguana by the presence of three narrow, cream to white colored bands on males, rather than the broader bluish bands of the latter species.

The biggest threat this iguana faces is habitat loss due to fires, storms, agricultural development, and competition from feral goats.

Rare fauna II–Jersey 2004

Jersey Post collaborated with WWF organization  issued the second series of  the rare fauna ( threatened species) on July 27, 2004.The depicted species are Wall Lizard / Podarcis muralis , Ant Lion / Eurolean nostras , Field Cricket / Gryllus campestris, and Dartford Warbler / Sylvia undata. Along with the issue stamp,  Jersey Post released also the local FDC and maxi cards. The local FDC  have marked  image of Dartford Warbler on the left side and a special post mark shown Dartford Warbler also. Meanwhile maxi card  presented more detail of each species and each card have attached stamp of the related species.

Chinese Pangolin–Macao 1995

Macao Post has issued this cover alongside with the WWF stamps which are composed of 4 postage stamps depicted Chinese Pangolin or Manis pentadactyla in their habitat . This official FDC depicted a Chinese Pangolin climbed on the branch of tree and special post mark and dated on April 10, 1995. 

The Chinese pangolin is a rather secretive animal,  nocturnal creatures and  extremely shy. They move very slowly and are known for their non-aggressive behaviour. Their hard scales work as a protection cover from predators and when they feel endangered, they curl themselves in a ball. Chinese pangolins are mainly terrestrial animals .

 

 

 

 

The Komodo Dragon–Indonesia 2000

The Komodo dragon (Varanus komodoensis), is a large species of lizard found in the Indonesian islands of Komodo, Rinca, Flores, Gili Motang and Gili Dasami. It can grow to a maximum length of 3 metres  in rare cases and weighing up to around 70 kilograms .

Indonesian Post has issued the nature conservation stamp series features Komodo, on August 18, 2000. This issue  collaborated with WWF organization by  put the logo of WWF on the each stamp. Also Indonesian Post issued the official FDC of this issue as a local WWF cover.  Maximum card depicts Komodo’s life also issued on the same date,

Iguana Delicatissima - Anguilla 1997

On 13 October 1997, Anguilla Post issued the official first day cover featured the Lesser Antillean Iguana or Iguana delicatissima. This issue coincide with the WWF stamps which depicts same species.

The Lesser Antillean Iguana (Iguana delicatissima) is a large arboreal lizard endemic to the Lesser Antilles.Lesser Antillean iguanas are primarily herbivores, feeding on leaves, flowers, fruit, and growing shoots of upwards of 100 different species of plant.

Skink & Gecko - Norfolk Island 1996

Norfolk Island Post has collaborated with the WWF organization issued the stamp series features Skink and Gecko on February 6, 1996. Also the official FDC issued by Norfolk Island Post on the same date. The Official FDC as the local WWF cover have special post marked.

Skink Pseudemoia lichenigera is a species of skink in the Scincidae family. It is found on Australia's Norfolk and Lord Howe Islands.As a family Skinks are cosmopolitan; species occur in a variety of habitats worldwide, apart from boreal and polar regions. Various species occur in ecosystems ranging from deserts and mountains to grasslands.Skinks are lizards belonging to the family Scincidae. 

Leopard Snake (Elaphe Situla) - Ukraine 2002

On 25 May 2002 Ukraine Post issued the local WWF cover as official FDC of the WWF stamp series. The cover has specific postmark and depict the Elaphe situla on the left bottom corner.
